Reine Elisabeth Competition 2914 will be dedicated to singers. First round will take place from 14-16/05 and Semi-final from 18-20/05 at Salle Flagey in Brussels, with piano accompaniment. Japanese conductor Kazushi Ono will take over the musical leadership of the ‘Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya’ from September 2015. According to the Orchestra’s General Manager François Bou, Ono’s appointment has been based on the following criteria: “His ability to help orchestras develop and blossom, his maturity and experience, his knowledge of a wide range of repertoire, his international stature and his respect and understanding of Catalonia.” Read More →

Der amerikanische Architekt Frank Gehry baut einen neuen Konzertsaal in Venezuela.  Der Saal in der Großstadt Barquisimeto (ca 350 km von Caracas), soll nach dem jungen Dirigenten Gustavo Dudamel benannt werden. Gehry ist der Architekt der ‘Walt Disney Hall’ in Los Angeles, wo das ‘LA Philharmonic’ spielt, dessen ‘Music Director’ Dudamel ist.

Der Karlsruher Gemeinderat hat eine Generalsanierung und Erweiterung des Staatstheaters Karlsruhe mit einem Kostenvolumen von 125 Millionen Euro beschlossen. 2014 feiert die Junge Deutsche Philharmonie ihr 40-jähriges Bestehen mit einem interessanten und vielseitigen Programm. Am 15. März präsentiert sich das Orchester bei der ‘Langen Nacht der Romantik’ in der Alten Oper Frankfurt. Im Anschluss begibt sich die Junge Deutsche Philharmonie auf ihre Frühjahrstournee ‘Zerrissenheit’ durch Deutschland und Italien. To commemorate its former Chief Conductor Claudio Abbado, the Berliner Philharmoniker has made available many of the concerts they recorded together at no charge at The Digital Concert Hall. These recordings include some of Abbado’s collaborations with Daniel Barenboim (Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3), Maurizio Pollini (Beethoven’s Fantasia for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra in C Minor), Anne Sofie von Otter (Berg’s Altenberg Lieder) and Gil Shaham (Brahms’ Violin Concerto). English National Opera (ENO) has announced that its Music Director Edward Gardner will leave his role at the end of the 2014/15 season to take up his new appointment as Chief Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Vandalen haben das Grab des Mozart-Sohns Franz Xaver Wolfgang im sogenannten Mozart-Park, einem ehemaligen Friedhof der tschechischen Stadt Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) beschädigt. Die Polizei geht davon aus, dass Metalldiebe den gusseisernen Schmuck des Grabes stehen und verkaufen wollten. Die Skulptur wurde vom Grabstein gestoßen und hat dabei Risse bekommen. Die Diebe ließen das Metallstück neben dem Grab liegen. Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart starb 1844 in Karlovy Vary.
