The Indiana Symphony Society (ISS) released a truly fine audited financial results for the 2012-2013 season, Krzysztof Urbański’s second full season as Music Director. The orchestra raised more money ($9.8 million) than any other year in its history and achieved its first balanced budget since the 2006-07 season. Hungarian Composer Sándor Szokolay died on December 8, his family said yesterday. Szokolay was a professor of the Liszt Ferenc Academy, Budapest. He was 82 years old.

At yesterday’s annual meeting of the Governing Members, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) announced good news: During fiscal Year 2013 (i.e. 2012-13 season) the orchestra achieved the first balanced budget since 2007. Sie war von den ‘Editions Le Chant du Monde’, Inhaber der Rechte an den Werken Serge Prokofievs, beschuldigt worden, den Rittermarsch aus dem Ballet ‘Romeo und Julia’ weitgehend kopiert zu haben. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington appointed Deborah F. Rutter as next president. Ms. Rutter currently serves as the President of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association and will assume her Kennedy Center duties on September 1, 2014.
