Riccardo Muti will end his 13-year career as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with concerts June 23-25 and a performance of Beethoven’s Missa solemnis. A concert in Millennium Park for the entire city of Chicago will follow on June 27. Christina Scheppelmann, currently General Director of Seattle Opera, has been appointed to the Théâtre de La Monnaie in Brussels. She will replace Peter de Caluwe, who has held the post since 2007 and whose term of office ends on July 1, 2025. Having previously worked in Milan and San Francisco, German Christina Scheppelmann was director of the Muscat and Barcelona opera houses before joining Seattle in 2019.

Die aus Mannheim stammende Sängerin Gabriele Schnaut ist gestern im Alter von 72 Jahren gestorben. Die Künstlerin studierte zunächst Violine, später Gesang und war vorerst als Mezzosopranistin erfolgreich. 1985 wechselte sie ins hochdramatische Sopran-Fach und konnte vor allem mit Wagner- und Strauss-Partien begeistern, aber auch als Turandot.
