The winner of the 2013 Pierre Fournier Award is Chiara Enderle (*1992), who was accompanied by Keiko Tamura, piano. Der deutsche Bariton Udo Reinemann ist am 13. Juli im Alter von 70 Jahren verstorben. Reinemann wurde 1942 in Deutschland geboren. Er studierte Gesang in Krefeld, Wien und Salzburg, u.a. bei Erika Werba. Danach perfektionierte er sich bei Germaine Lubin in Paris und Otakar Kraus in London. Er war auf Liedgesang spezialisiert, insbesondere auf die französische Mélodie. Er ließ sich in den Siebzigerjahren in Paris nieder, wo er auch unterrichtete. 1997 gründete er das ‘Festival des Heures Romantiques entre Loir & Loire’.

Le luthier français Etienne Vatelot est décédé dans la nuit de vendredi à samedi 13 juillet, à l’âge de 87 ans. Sa renommée état mondiale et les plus grands l’ont consulté, Isaac Stern, Yehudi Menuhin ou encore Mstislav Rostropovich. Etienne Vatelot avait appris la lutherie aux côtés de son père, Marcel Vatelot, qui fonda son atelier en 1909. Il prit la relève de son père en 1959.

Symphonie im Rahmen der ‘Robeco Summernights’ verabschiedet sich heute die niederländische ‘Radio Kamer Filharmonie’ im Concertgebouw Amsterdam von ihrem Publikum. In Ocean City (Maryland, USA) war der 61-jährige Geiger William F. Hassay Jr., von der Polizei unter Berufung auf die Anti-Lärmgesetzgebung daran gehindert worden, auf Bürgersteigen zu musizieren. Dagegen hatte die ‘American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland’ geklagt, und Richterin Ellen L. Hollander vom zuständigen Distriktsgericht befand nun, Geigespielen auf Bürgersteigen sei nicht als Lärm einzustufen und werde vom Recht auf Ausdrucksfreiheit in  der Öffentlichkeit gedeckt. Hassay kann also von der Polizei unbehelligt weiter musizieren.

Überall auf der Welt singen Eltern für ihre Kinder Schlaf- und Wiegenlieder. ‘Slaap, kindje slaap’ singt man in den Niederlanden, ‘Tuta nana tgu’ in Graubünden, ‘Lala, mtoto lala’ auf Suaheli. Die ersten vier Folgen des mehrfach ausgezeichneten Liederprojekts für das Singen mit Kindern waren deutschen Liedern gewidmet. Nun betritt die Benefiz-Initiative von Carus und SWR2 Neuland. Yevgeny Kissin is in poor health and has to cancel the opening concert at the French piano festival La Roque d’Anthéron, Saturday 20 July at 18h30, Parc de Florans. They need three to replace him: pianist Boris Berezovsky, Silvia Marcovici, violon, and Alexandre Kniazev, violoncello. Berezovsky will play Beethoven and Chopin solo, later he is joined by his colleagues to perform Schubert’s First Piano Trio.

An independent mediator has been involved in Minnesota Orchestra’s labor dispute, According to the Minneapolis based newspaper  Star Tribune, « management and musicians — now in the 11th month of a bitter labor lockout — are quietly talking again behind the scenes. » Both sides will decide within the next week to 10 days whether they can work with this mediator.

On January 1, 2014, Sir John Eliot Gardiner will become President of the Bach Archive Foundation in Leipzig. The function of Foundation president is a newly created one, aimed at underscoring the internationally leading role of the Bach Archive and developing it further.
