The second edition of Classical:NEXT takes place from today, 29 May until 1 June in Vienna, Austria. After a successful premiere in Munich last year, the new professional forum for classical music is set to become the annual meeting point for the classical music scene. The new venue for the Classical:NEXT exhibition and conference spaces is the MAK, the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/ Contemporary Art, in Vienna. The Spanish National Orchestra announced the appointment of David Afkham as its new Principal Conductor, effective from September 2015 for four years. Afkham (*1988), a German conductor of Persian descent, is rapidly establishing a good reputation.
American conductor Kent Nagano (*1951) has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Sweden. His contract begins in October 2013. Kent Nagano will spend seven weeks with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under season. There will be twelve concerts in Gothenburg and further concerts in Western Götaland.
