Der aus Kalifornien stammende Dirigent Steven Sloane (*1958) bleibt Generalmusikdirektor der Bochumer Symphoniker. Der Haupt- und Finanzausschuss der Stadt Bochum hat jetzt der Vertragsverlängerung für weitere sechs Jahre zugestimmt. Der ursprüngliche Vertrag endet im Juli 2014. The Gulbenkian Orchestra has appointed a specialist in contemporary music, Susanna Mälkki (*1969), as Principal Guest Conductor for a three year period, beginning in July 2013. Susanna Mälkki’s first season as Principal Guest Conductor includes Luca Francesconi’s opera ‘Quartett’, in a fully staged production by Fura dels Baus – of which she conducted the world premiere at Teatro alla Scala, Milan in 2011. The second edition of Classical:NEXT takes place from today, 29 May until 1 June in Vienna, Austria. After a successful premiere in Munich last year, the new professional forum for classical music is set to become the annual meeting point for the classical music scene. The new venue for the Classical:NEXT exhibition and conference spaces is the MAK, the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/ Contemporary Art, in Vienna. The Spanish National Orchestra announced the appointment of David Afkham as its new Principal Conductor, effective from September 2015 for four years. Afkham (*1988), a German conductor of Persian descent, is rapidly establishing a good reputation.
Kent Nagano

American conductor Kent Nagano (*1951) has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Sweden. His contract begins in October 2013. Kent Nagano will spend seven weeks with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under season. There will be twelve concerts in Gothenburg and further concerts in Western Götaland.

Polish composer Marcin Stanczyk (*1977) is this year’s winner of the prestigious Toru Takemitsu Composition Award in Japan. Ninety seven participants from 28 countries took part in the competition, which is named after the famous Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu who died in 1996. Read More →
