Austrian-Uruguayan conductor Carlos Kalmar, 65, currently the principal conductor for the Cleveland Institute of Music, has been accused of “inappropriate behavior.” Carlos Kalmar, who served as music director of the Oregon Symphony for 18 years, has been in the Cleveland position since 2021 (he’s also the institute’s director of orchestral studies). The French soprano Natalie Dessay announced the end of her career on France Musique. She wants to retire from the stage in 2025, when she will celebrate her 60th birthday. For the occasion, she will make a farewell tour with the pianist Philippe Cassard.

Cellist Aleksandr Khramouchin died May 13, following a septic shock. Aleksandr Khramoushin was born in 1979 in Minsk into a family of musicians. In 1992 he moved to Belgium and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Hans Mannes.
