The Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, and San Francisco Symphony announced the launch of the California Festival: A Celebration of New Music. The two-week, statewide festival of music from around the world will showcase musical compositions written within the past five years. The French pianist, Gabriel Tacchino, a protégé of Francis Poulenc and Herbert von Karajan, has passed away at the age of 88. Gabriel Tacchino, born on August 4, 1934 in Cannes, died this January 29. He was a student of Marguerite Long and Francis Poulenc at the Paris Conservatory between 1947 and 1953. He began his concert career in 1953. He is considered the only disciple of Francis Poulenc, whose first complete recording he made. Read More →
