Composer and conductor Michael J. Shapiro, 71, will premiere his new Requiem ‘Voices’ on 10 November. Timed to coincide with the anniversary of Kristallnacht, it will take place at New York City’s Central Synagogue. Sweden’s Royal Academy of Music has expelled Valery Gergiev who was a foreign member of this institution. They say: « He was excluded on the basis of his unwillingness to take a stand against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a stand that the Academy has demanded of him in view of his well-documented close relationship with President Vladimir Putin. The Italian institute Dimore del Quartetto (in English Residence of Quartets) has launched another project, called Merita. According to the press release, it is a digital and real circuiting platform whose main objective is to increase the visibility and circulation of emerging European string quartets through a dedicated platform.
