Ukraine-born conductor Valentin Uryupin has been forced to resign from the post of chief conductor of the Moscow New Opera Theater Kolobov, Russian media report. The magazine Musical Life published the text of a letter from Valentin Uryupin addressed to the theater workers, which, in particular, states: “As you probably already know, some time ago I was forced to resign for very good personal reasons. The Argentinian and Uruguayan newspapers La Nacion and El Observador report about a police operation aimed at dismantling the so called Villa Crespo organization, allegedly involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation and other crimes. The investigation apparently and according to those reports show that business figures, politicians and influential people had links to that organization. The Illinois Philharmonic has reached long-term agreements with both Music Director Stilian Kirov and the IPO musicians. Bulgarian conductor Stilian Kirov, 38, has agreed to a 4- year contract extension through the 2026-2027 season, bringing his total time with IPO at that point to ten years.
