Bei Premiere der Walküre bei den Bayreuther Festspielen hat sich Tomasz Konieczny am Montagabend so schwer verletzt, dass er nicht weitersingen konnte. Für den Wotan sprang im dritten Akt Michael Kupfer-Radecky ein. Als Konieczny sich im zweiten Aufzug in einen Sessel fallen ließ, brach dessen Rückenlehne ab. Er sang den zweiten Akt zwar zu Ende, konnte aber im dritten Akt nicht mehr auftreten. In Wagners Oper ist im Original kein Sessel vorgesehen.

After several similar initiatives, among them Solti’s World Orchestra of Peace, a new orchestra bringing together musicians from all around the world is created. It is called Utopia. The first tour in October will include Philharmonie Luxembourg, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Wiener Konzerthaus, and Berliner Philharmonie. As a free orchestra based on the time-limited association of musicians it will include instrumentalists from 28 countries

The Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro has hired Brazilian conductor Felipe Prazeres, 45, as Music Director. He joined the orchestra in 2000 as violinist. He started conducting when he was 30. He is also a founding member of the Johann Sebastian Rio chamber orchestra.
The Brazilian soprano Laura de Souza died last Saturday at the age of 64 from cancer. She was one of the main Brazilian singers of the last decades. Graduated in Rio Grande do Sul, Laura de Souza moved to Europe, where she completed her studies in Hamburg, Paris, and Milan. Read More →

The opera singer Luciano Pavarotti will be honored with the 2,730th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7065 Hollywood Boulevard. Pavarotti will be honored with a posthumous star in the category of Live Performance. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 24, with guest speakers James Conlon, Cinzia Salvioli, and accepting on behalf of the family, Cristina Pavarotti.
