The 1st International Rachmaninov Competition for pianists, conductors and composers, which ended on June 27 in Moscow, rewarded large majority of young Russian and Chinese musicians. Yet, a French conductor, a Brazilian pianist and a British composer managed to make it into the list of winners. Der schwedische Dirigent Herbert Blomstedt, 94, hat seine Konzerte mit der Staatskapelle Berlin am heutigen 27. und dem morgigen 28. Juni abgesagt. Wie die Staatsoper mitteilte, ist er nach einem Sturz ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert worden. Für Blomstedt übernimmt Christian Thielemann die musikalische Leitung der beiden Konzerte.
