The Boise Philharmonic (Idaho/US) has extended Music Director Eric Garcia’s contract through the 2023-2024 season.  Texas-born conductor Eric Garcia, 42, was named music director in Boise in 2017. Garcia graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, and earned his master’s degree in conducting from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

The Salzburg Festival opened on Saturday with a performance of a Richard Strauss opera, Elektra. The 100th edition of the festival has been scaled-down from an initial 200 to 100 performances due to the coronavirus pandemic and is taking place under strict hygiene regulations. Google has announced that they will remove all Danish music content on YouTube from August 1. Here is the background: Under the auspices of the Nordic alliance of collecting societies, Polaris, negotiations on a joint Nordic agreement on the use of music on YouTube are currently in full swing. The agreement will replace the local agreements of the Norwegian, Finnish and Danish composers and songwriters’ societies, combining them in a single, joint agreement with Google. In the case of Denmark’s Koda, the national agreement for Denmark expired in April, after which it was temporarily extended – as is standard practice in the industry while negotiating a new agreement. Esther Honens International Piano Competition Foundation (Honens) announces the commission of a piano concerto for 2018 Honens Prize Laureate Nicolas Namoradze by Canadian-American composer Kati Agócs. The new work, in memory of Canadian jazz pianist, mathematician, educator, and composer Bruce McKinnon, is to premiere in 2022 with additional performances across Canada and internationally anticipated for the 2022 / 23 season. The Boston Symphony Orchestra has cancelled its fall concerts, in total 37 concerts of 14 programs (scheduled for Sept. 16-Nov. 28). Those programs include a two-week Beethoven festival led by music director Andris Nelsons, the world premiere of Julia Wolfe’s BSO-commissioned Her Story, and the Boston premiere of Kevin Puts’s The Brightness of Light with Renée Fleming.
