Wird der Sendesaal des NDR Funkhauses in Hannover eine Art Berliner Flughafen? Die nach Sanierung für Januar vorgesehene Eröffnung musste verschoben werden. The Baltimore Symphony has announced that in the last month the BSO has secured $6 million in extraordinary operating gifts as well as a $1.25 million endowment gift. The news release says: « These gifts will enable the BSO to turn the corner towards sustainability. Unrestricted operating gifts will provide immediate cash flow and balance sheet relief as well as position us to embark on a robust, well-researched, multi-year plan that will reinvigorate our programs and establish new levels of engagement with our audiences, the community at large and the state of Maryland. »

José Eduardo Gomes from Portugal was awarded First Prize at the second European Union Conducting Competition in Pazardjick and in Sofia, Bulgaria. He also won the Beethoven Prize. Second Prize went to Sebastian Almanzar from Colombia and Third Prize to Svetlomir Zlatkov from Bulgaria. Initially there were about 300 applications from 57 different countries

Der Dirigent Christoph von Dohnanyi ist gestern Nachmittag im Hamburger Rathaus mit der Johannes-Brahms-Medaille der Stadt Hamburg ausgezeichnet worden. Bürgermeister Peter Tschentscher überreichte dem 90-Jährigen die Medaille, mit der die Stadt seit 1928 in unregelmäßigen Abständen Personen ehrt, die hervorragende Leistungen auf dem Gebiet der Musik vollbracht haben.
