American-Armenian conductor Constantine Orbelian, 62, was dismissed as General Manager of the Armenian National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Yerevan. It is not clear whether he will continue as artistic director or not. Armenian media reported that Orbelian and the Acting Minister of Culture, Nazeni Gharibyan, had serious differences over the opera house’s management.
The Dean and Chapter of Westminster have appointed Greg Morris as Director of Music at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, following the appointment of Aidan Oliver as Director of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus. Greg Morris is currently Assistant Director of Music at the Temple Church, Musical Director of Collegium of London, and founding Musical Director of the Bar Choral Society. He will take up his new post at St Margaret’s on 1st July 2019.

Today the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra is playing the opening concert at the Tongyeong International Music Festival in South Korea. The orchestra is in residence in Tongyeong where it plays two concerts in the sold-out concert hall of Tongyeong as well as children’s concerts. Conducted by Michael Sanderling the concerts features soloists Roman Trekel and Yeree Suh in the Brahms Requiem and Behzod Abduraimov in Rachmaninovs First Pianos Concert. Der österreichische Dirigent Gustav Kuhn (72) ist vom Verdacht, er habe sich in seiner 1969 eingereichten Dissertation ‘Wert und Sinn im musikalischen Kunstwerk’ des Plagiats schuldig gemacht, erneut entlastet worden. Wie die Universität Salzburg am Dienstag bekannt gab, hat die Kommission zur Sicherung guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis nach einer weiteren Überprüfung der Dissertation « keine Aberkennung des Doktor-Titels » empfohlen.
Though a New York judge has dismissed some portions of a lawsuit filed by former Metropolitan Opera music director James Levine against the MET, the court will continue working on one topic, since breach of contract claims remain part of the suit. Levine was fired in March 2018 after the Met said an investigation found evidence of sexual abuse and harassment.
