Die kasachische Komponistin Aigerim Seilova erhält den mit 20.000 Euro dotierten Hindemith-Preis 2019. Die 37-jährige Seilova besteche „durch eine hohe Professionalität im kompositorischen Handwerk und durch eine originelle Klangsprache“, heißt es in der Begründung der Jury. Der Hindemith-Preis wird zum 30. Mal verliehen und am 26. August bei einem Preisträgerkonzert in Rendsburg-Büdelsdorf übergeben.

The San Francisco based Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale (PBO) announced that Richard Egarr, 55, has signed a five-year contract to be the next Music Director of the ensemble. Adjacent to the Royal Opera in Muscat (Oman), the new House of Musical Arts was inaugurated last Tuesday by the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra, the Opera Choir Group and the Military Choir of the Royal Guard of Oman as well as the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, with the Georgian soprano Nino Machaidze and Mexican tenor Ramon Vargas. Der Ernst von Siemens-Musikpreis 2019 geht an die 1967 geborene britische Komponistin Rebecca Saunders, teilte die Stiftung mit. Die Auszeichnung ist mit 250.000 Euro dotiert. Die Preisverleihung findet am 7. Juni 2019 im Münchner Prinzregententheater statt. In der Begründung heißt es: « Mit ihrer unverkennbaren und bemerkenswerten Klangsprache ist die in Berlin lebende britische Komponistin Rebecca Saunders eine der führenden internationalen Vertreterinnen ihrer Generation. »
Die Stiftung Niedersachsen hat die Geiger Antje Weithaas und Oliver Wille an die Spitze des renommierten Joseph Joachim Violinwettbewerbs berufen. Unter ihrer Leitung soll der Wettbewerb, wie es in einer Mitteilung heißt, « zeitgemäß weiterentwickelt werden. » Der nächste Wettbewerb findet im Herbst 2021 in Hannover statt.
