Italian conductor Daniele Gatti is the new musical director of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The contract is starting ad hoc and runs for three years, until 31 December 2021, the press release says. The decision to hire Gatti was taken by superintendent Carlo Fuortes together with the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, who is the president of Fondazione Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Yip Wing-sie will give up her job as music Director of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in 2002, Asian media announced. Born in Guangzhou, China, in 1960, Yip Wing-sie was a winner of the First Prize in the 35th Besançon Conducting Competition in 1985 and a prize-winner in the 8th Tokyo International Conducting Competition in 1988. Yip Wing-sie has been the Music Director of Hong Kong Sinfonietta since 2002.
