This August, Daniel Barenboim reunites with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra for a seven-city tour across Europe. Starting today 9/8 in Aaarhus, the tour will pass through Copenhagen, Aldeburgh, London (BBC Proms), Salzburg, Berlin and end in Lucerne on 22/8. At the center of the concerts is David Robert Coleman’s Looking for Palestine for soprano and orchestra, a work commissioned by the ensemble, and one that speaks to its uniquely political identity. Steinway Musical Instruments Inc., currently controlled by U.S. hedge fund billionaire John Paulson, could possibly be taken over by the state-owned China Poly Group Corp., Bloomberg reported. Steinway pianos have become increasingly popular in China.

 

Mikis Theodorakis

Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, 93, was discharged from the Athens Medical Centre yesterday after three days of treatment. Theodorakis had been hospitalized on Friday after experiencing intense chest pain and suffering from a heart irregularity. Doctors said he had had a heart attack and should remain in the intensive care unit for 24 hours.

Das Festival Europäische Kirchenmusik in Schwäbisch Gmünd zieht eine positive Bilanz seiner diesjährigen Ausgabe. Rund 12.500 Besucher besuchten die etwa 40 Konzerte. Die Gesamtauslastung lag (wie schon 2017) bei 93 Prozent.
