Conductor Seiji Ozawa, 82, who underwent valve disease surgery in April, made an unannounced comeback last Saturday at a concert in Nagano Prefecture. He conducted part of a concert by students of the Ozawa International Chamber Music Academy.
In the course of the ongoing renovation of the building, the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg State has fired 49 employees. The dismissed are administrative staff and choir members. Last year, the Conservatory sacked 79 artists of the Opera and Ballet Theatre due to the lack of performing possibilities during the house’s face-lift.
