Giacomo Puccini
Simonetta Puccini, 89, died on Saturday, 16 December in Milan. This was announced by the Fondazione Simonetta Puccini. She was the only and last descendant of the composer. The only son of the composer, Antonio (1884-1946), had no children by his wife, but he had a daughter, Simonetta, born in 1929 out of wedlock. Simonetta Puccini has been recognized as a legitimate heir and authorized to take the composer’s name only after a long judicial battle. In 1996 she became owner of the current Villa Museo Puccini in Torre del Lago.

Venezuelan conductor Domingo Hindoyan has been appointed as Principal Guest Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice (NOSPR). Cecilia Bartoli, Intendantin der Salzburger Pfingstfestspiele, will an der Mailänder Scala eine Barockoper aufführen. Das habe sie mit Alexander Pereira, dem früheren Intendanten der Salzburger Festspiele, vereinbart, sagte sie der Mailänder Tageszeitung ‘Il Giornale’. Bartoli hat seit dem Weggang von Riccardo Muti im Jahre 2005 nicht mehr an der Scala gesungen.

French label NoMadMusic has won the Innovation Award of the city of Paris for its NomadPlay application. Designed for amateur or professional musicians, it will allow the user to take the place of a musician at the heart of an orchestra from his own place. The label announces an immersive experience, with a spatialized sound, synchronised scrolling of the score and a large catalogue of musical works. NomadPlay is scheduled to go online in 2018. Currently it is still in a test phase, but anyone interested in the project can become a beta tester.
