Weil er seit Monaten wegen einer Entzündung am linken Arm nicht auftreten kann, hat Lang Lang für ein Konzert in der New Yorker Carnegie Hall am Mittwochabend gleich drei Hände angemietet. Er spielte Gershwins ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ in der Fassung für zwei Klaviere zusammen mit einem seiner zahllosen Protégés, dem 14 Jahre alten Maxim Lando, der die linke Hand beisteuerte, sowie Chick Corea am zweiten Flügel. Das Philadelphia Orchestra wurde in dem Konzert von Yannick Nézet-Séguin dirigiert. What a show!

Russian pianist Mikhail Klein, 72, collapsed and died on stage during a concert of the Irkutsk Regional Philharmonic Society, the Russian website Classical Music News reports.Mikhail Klein graduated from the Irkutsk Art College, the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. The pianist gave concerts in Russia, Japan, China, Germany, Poland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

The Music Director of the Sodre Symphony Orchestra (Uruguay), Martin Garcia, 41, resigned this Tuesday over serious discrepancies with the government authorities regarding the direction of the orchestra and its place in the musical life of the Uruguayan city Sodre. In a letter to the Board, Garcia said: « I found myself in the middle of a broken theatre in which the interests of some are opposed to those of others ». He criticizes that it was very difficult to respect the « calendar that was made almost a year ago » and he was stunned about the « helplessness to solve technical, organizational and functional problems ».

Léo Margue

Three French orchestras, Orchestre de Picardie, Orchestre National d’Île-de-France and Orchestre National de Lille have signed a partnership for the common employment of an assistant conductor. For the first season, 2017-18, they hired the French conductor Léo Margue to be their assistant conductor. Der 1924 geborene Schweizer Komponist Klaus ist am 2. Oktober in Perugia gestorben. Seine musikalische Ausbildung erhielt er an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Zürich; dort studierte er Musiktheorie und Komposition bei Willy Burkhard, während der ersten zwei Studienjahre auch Violine bei Stefi Geyer. Dieses Instrument unterrichtete er selbst von 1949 bis 1955 am Konservatorium Zürich, dann folgte ein Studienaufenthalt bei Boris Blacher in Berlin. Read More →
