Three candidates will compete in the finals round of the Clara Haskil competition in Vevey, Switzerland, tomorrow evening at 7:30 pm. Candidates selected for finale are Alberto Ferro, Italy, Mao Fujita, Japan, and Aristo Sham, Hong-Kong. The final round will be broadcast live on TV Arte Web, RTS Espace 2 and www.clara-haskil.ch.

In January 2019 the Finnish National Opera will host the world premiere of a new opera from Finland based on Ulla-Lena Lundberg’s bestselling novel Ice. The novel was awarded the Finlandia prize, Finland’s most prestigious literary award, in 2012. Der regierungskritische russische Theater- und Opernregisseur Kirill Serebrennikow, 47, ist in Moskau festgenommen worden. Gegen ihn werde wegen Betrugsverdachts ermittelt, teilte das staatliche Ermittlungskomitee am Dienstag in Moskau mit. The winner of this year’s Queen Sonja International Music Competition is tenor Seung Ju Bahg, a young talent from South Korea. Second prize went to tenor Giovanni Sebastiano Sala from Italy, and Third prize to Belarussian bass Alexander Roslavets. The Ingrid Bjoner Scholarship of NOK 75 000 was awarded to the best Norwegian participant, who this year was 25 year old Christian Valle from Trondheim. Read More →

German composer Wilhelm Killmayer has died on Sunday, 20 August, one day before his 90th birthday. Killmayer studied conducting and composition from 1945 to 1951 in Munich. He was also a private student of Carl Orff from 1951 and was admitted to his master class at the Staatliche Musikhochschule in 1953. Read More →
