Die Kosten für den Neubau des Volkstheaters in Rostock werden mit mehr als 100 Millionen Euro berechnet. In die Diskussion hat sich nun die Deutsche Orchestervereinigung eingemischt. « Bei der nun zu treffenden Entscheidung darf die Kultur nicht gegen die Sanierung von Schulen, Kitas oder Straßen ausgespielt werden. Nach 15 Monaten und einer von vielen Rückschlägen begleiteten Suche nach einem Nachfolger für den nach einem Sexskandal ausgeschiedenen Siegfried Mauser, hat der Universitätsrat des Salzburger Mozarteums im Eiltempo aus dem Dreiervorschlag des Senates einstimmig die Deutsche Elisabeth Gutjahr zur Rektorin gewählt. Gutjahr hat die Wahl angenommen, der Zeitpunkt des Amtsantritts bleibt festzulegen. Die 56-jährige ist seit September 2006 Rektorin der Trossinger Hochschule.

British BBC reports about a Russian violinist, Andrey Osipov from Cheboksary, who was arrested during an orchestra rehearsal. The arrest came four days after the musician took part in a protest against corruption. He was fined for disobeying policemen who asked him to leave the protest meeting. In a previous court judgment the same musician was found « guilty of shouting the wrong slogans ». In the meeting, Andrey and his fellow protesters asked the Russian Prime Minister to resign.
