Chicago Opera Theater has named Lidiya Yankovskaya music director. Her appointment is effective immediately, yet she will start regular conducting duties only in the 2018-19 season. The Russian-born conductor currently serves as artistic director of Boston’s Juventus New Music Ensemble, artistic director of the Boston New Music Festival and music director of Massachusetts’ Commonwealth Lyric Theater.

The 40th season of the Dresdner Musikfestspiele was extremely positive, according to the organizer: « From May 18 to June 18 Dresden was transformed into a vibrant meeting-place for about 1,500 artists from all over the world. » The festival organized 60 concerts at 22 venues, and those events had about 54,000 visitors. In 2016, 53 events had attracted 48,000 visitors. Furthermore, in 2017, ticket sales revenues soared by 38 percent, reaching € 1.4 million.
