Der Geiger Rainer Kussmaul ist am 27. März nach schwerer Krankheit im Alter von 71 Jahren in Freiburg gestorben. Er war als Solist und Kammermusiker weltweit tätig und von 1993 bis 1997 Erster Konzertmeister der Berliner Philharmonikern. 1995 gründete er die Berliner Barocksolisten, deren künstlerische Leitung er bis 2010 innehatte. Als Nachfolger von Henryk Szeryng und Ruggiero Ricci übernahm er außerdem ab 1987 die Violinklasse an der Carl-Flesch-Akademie Baden-Baden. Er war auch Professor an der Freiburger Musikhochschule

Der australische Dirigent Nicholas Milton (*1968) wird nach nur einer Amtszeit als Generalmusikdirektor das Saarländische Staatstheater 2018 wieder verlassen. Milton ist seit 2014 dort engagiert. French conductor Louis Frémaux died last week, aged 95. In his career he championed French music while working with the orchestra of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the Orchestre Philharmonique Rhône-Alpes (later the Orchestre National de Lyon), the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
