Es sollte das Opern-Open Air des Jahres werden: Die monumentale ‘Aida’-Inszenierung von Plácido Domingo (76), die im Mai starten und durch ganz Europa touren sollte, muss wegen technischer Probleme um ein Jahr verschoben werden. Die Tour starte nun erst 2018, sagten die Organisatoren am Mittwoch.

French conductor Louis Frémaux died last week, aged 95. In his career he championed French music while working with the orchestra of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the Orchestre Philharmonique Rhône-Alpes (later the Orchestre National de Lyon), the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

After announcing a $2.4 million budget deficit, the Cleveland Orchestra is reducing costs. So it is cutting its 2018 Miami residency at Arsht Center in half. The orchestra will perform just two programs in an abbreviated 2018 season. Reportedly the orchestra lost the support of several deep-pocket Miami donors.

Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra is performing ICMA’s Gala Concert 2017 next Saturday, 1 April at the Gewandhaus. The concert will be conducted by Francesco Angelico. Chief Conductor of the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck as well as the Tyrolean Theatre, the Sicily born conductor now leads this ensemble in his fourth and at the same time last season. French composer Karol Beffa was awarded the Grand Prix France Musique des Muses at the Paris Book Fair for his biography of György Ligeti published by Fayard. Three other authors received an award: Karine Le Bail for her work La musique au pas – être musicien sous l’occupation (CNRS Editions), Claude Abromont for La symphonie fantastique (Editions Philharmonie de Paris), as well as Agnès Desarthe and René Urtreger for Le Roi René (Odile Jacob).
