The San Francisco Symphony and Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas will replace the cancelled concerts in North Carolina with a Symphony Pride on 4 April at Davies Hall in San Francisco. The cancellation were a protest against homophobic law in North Carolina, and subsequently the planned gala will be a benefit concert with the money it raises going to non-profit organizations providing help for LGBT people. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and music director Louis Langrée have agreed to extend the French conductor’s contract through the 2021-22 season. The previous extension was announced in March 2015 and covered the years through the orchestra’s 125th anniversary season in 2019/20. Langrée has taken over this position in 2013. Read More →
Dem österreichischen Komponisten Klaus Lang, 45, haben die USA die Einreise verweigert, meldet die ‘Kleine Zeitung’. Er sollte nach Los Angeles fliegen, um die Aufführung seiner ‘missa beati pauperes spiritu’ im Kulturzentrum ‘Art Store L. A.’ vorzubereiten. Die Visa-Verweigerung erfolgte ohne Begründung einen Tag vor der Abreise. Der österreichischen Zeitung erklärte Lang, er sei « überzeugt davon, dass der Grund darin liegt, dass ich vor vier Jahren im Iran war. Eine entsprechende Frage dazu war im ESTA-Antragsformular zu beantworten“.

Als Europäisches Netzwerk für Alte Musik vereinigt REMA (Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne) mehr als 75 Organisationen und Festivals aus 21 Ländern, die auf Alte Musik spezialisiert sind. In seinem zweiten Jahr wird der ‘REMA Early Music Award’ dem Projekt ‘www.earlymusicsources.com’ verliehen. Einen Sonderpreis, den ‘REMA Early Music Artist Award’, erhält Benjamin Bagby. Die Preisverleihung findet am 17. März 2017 im Anschluss an ein Konzert von Benjamin Bagbys Ensemble ‘Sequentia’ in Basel statt.
Das grosse Festspielhaus in Salzburg
Das Kuratorium der Salzburger Festspiele hat am Mittwoch den positiven Rechnungsabschluss 2016 genehmigt. Wie der vorläufige Rechnungsabschluss schon gezeigt hatte, konnten 2016 wegen eines positiven Ergebnisses Reserven aufgebaut werden. 621.752 Euro davon fließen ins Budget 2018. Weitere 400.000 Euro wurden im Geschäftsjahr 2015/16 als Investitionsrücklage gebildet und werden jetzt für die Modernisierung der Technik im Großen Festspielhaus verwendet.
