Philharmonie de Paris
Together with the next season’s program, Philharmonie de Paris has published statistics for 2016. The new hall of the French capital welcomed 1.140.000 visitors (-10.000 compared to 2015), with 600.000 attending a concert, thus reaching an occupancy level of 93% and even 97 % for the main hall.
Die Sanierung der 1888 eröffneten Staatsoper in Prag hat angefangen. Die Wiedereröffnung ist für den Herbst 2019 geplant. Bis dahin wird die Oper auf anderen Bühnen des tschechischen Nationaltheaters spielen. Die Kosten der Renovierungsarbeiten werden auf umgerechnet etwa 32 Millionen Euro geschätzt.
Statsoper Unter den Linden
Die Berliner Staatsoper ‘Unter den Linden’ soll im Herbst 2017 wiedereröffnet werden. Das sagte Kultursenator Klaus Lederer im ‘rbb-inforadio.’ Die Eröffnung erfolgt mit drei Jahren Verspätung und nicht geplanten Mehrausgaben: statt 239 Millionen Euro wird die Sanierung ca. 400 Millionen Euro kosten.
Bogdan Roscic
Bogdan Roscic, dem designierten Intendant der Wiener Staatsoper wird vorgeworfen, sich in einer Arbeit über Theodor Adorno, mit der er 1988 in Wien promovierte, des Plagiats schuldig gemacht zu haben. Die Uni Wien will diesen Vorwurf nun offiziell prüfen. Wenn Teile der Dissertation von der Uni als Plagiat erkannt werden, ist es möglich, dass Roscic der Doktortitel aberkannt wird. Roscic soll 2020 an der Staatsoper die Nachfolge von Dominique Meyer antreten.
The non-governmental organization ‘Freedom of musical expression’, Freemuse, has published its latest figures on the persecution of artists around the world. In 2016, Freemuse registered 1,028 attacks on artists and violations of their rights across 78 countries. The number of cases registered in 2016 more than doubled the amount in 2015, Fremuse says: « Of those more than one thousand cases, Freemuse documented 188 total serious violations of artistic freedom and 840 acts of censorship. » Read More →
Im Rahmen des Deutschen Musikwettbewerbs wurde in Leipzig erstmals der Kurt-Masur-Förderpreis der Stiftung Internationales Kurt-Masur-Institut (IKMI) verliehen. Vladimir Fedoseyev

Moscow’s Helikon Theatre announced the appointment of Vladimir Fedoseyev, 84, as Principal Guest conductor. Helikon is a Russian opera company based in Moscow, specializing in unconventional productions. Fedoseyev began his cooperation with the Helikon Opera Theatre at the end of 2016 for a new production of Puccini’s Turandot. Fedoseyev told Russian media, he fell in love with the theatre and its ensemble.

Enfant terrible of the violin world, English violinist Nigel Kennedy, 60, has announced in an interview with British Classic FM that he has in mind focussing only on jazz and Klezmer. Kennedi said, from the classical genre he would only keep one single composer, Johann Sebastian Bach: « I’m thinking of giving up the whole of classical music except Bach …. I’m going to do one or two things in the next couple of years but then devote most of my attention to other aspects of music outside classical … « .
