The European Union Youth Orchestra is said to transfer its headquarters to Grafenegg in Austria, where Pianist Rudolf Buchbinder runs a successful music festival that has become in recent years already a partner of the orchestra. During the presentation conference of the festival’s program 2017, the Provincial Governor of Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), Erwin Pröll, said, he wanted the festival to acquire a distinctive European character and become the future home for the European Youth Orchestra. Already last month, the Hungarian National Philharmoinic, whoise Music Director Kocis was, announced that he was suffering from poor health. Austrian-Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko prepares herself for an after-singer career. She has created a design for a limited edition tea set named ‘Aida’ for the Imperial Porcelain Factory St. Petersburg. The set will be presented in December in Vienna. It is designed for six people and includes tea bowl, sugar bowl, milk jug and six cups and saucers. All products are made according to the sketches, personally created by artist.

The government has cancelled its funding for a new concert hall in London, as proposed by the conductor Simon Rattle. In a statement the government said: « London is already home to world class culture and music venues, from the iconic Royal Albert Hall to the Barbican Hall and the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre. » This of course stubbornly ignores the fact that London has not a single concert hall up to the standards found in other European cities.

After Roger Kaiser, from Dallas, scattered the ashes of his deceased mentor over the orchestra pit at the Metropolitan Opera last weekend, provoking the cancellation of two performances, the man has now issued an apology letter addressed to Peter Gelb and the MET. Am Dienstag wurde auf der Williamsburg-Brücke in New York ein Mann mit einem Halloween-Kostüm bekleidet und blutüberströmt aufgefunden wurde. Wie Nachrichten.at heute meldet, handelt es sich dabei um den 31-jährigen Arthur Magnus, Sohn der Opernsängerin Elisabeth von Magnus und Enkel von Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Die Umstände, unter den Magnus ums Leben kam, sind ungeklärt. Magnus war zu einer Hochzeitsfeier in die USA gereist.

Der wichtigste deutsche Wettbewerb für den Klassiknachwuchs, der Deutsche Musikwettbewerb, verzeichnet einen Anmelderekord. Für den 42. Durchgang verzeichnen die Organisatoren 280 Anmeldungen in 14 Kategorien. Der Wettbewerb findet vom 27. Februar bis 11. März 2017 in Leipzig (und damit erstmalig im Osten Deutschlands) statt. Das Abschlusskonzert am 11. März 2017 mit den Solo-Preisträgern und der Staatskapelle Halle unter der Leitung von Domikik Beykirch ist im Leipziger Gewandhaus zu erleben.
