Vladimir Shamidanov, solo flute of the Russian National Philharmonic, has been attacked by three men in a Moscow subway station. After beating him up, the robbers took his instruments – an expensive gold and a silver flute -, money and credit cards. The musician was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder.

Laut einer Mitteilung der Kölner Bühnen soll das Budget zur Sanierung der Oper und des Schauspielhauses auf 404 Millionen Euro steigen. Die Steigerung sei «notwendig, um die anfallenden Verpflichtungen zur Weiterführung der Sanierungsmaßnahme erfüllen zu können», teilten sie am Mittwoch mit. Der Stadtrat muss die Erhöhung noch bewilligen. Ursprünglich waren 250 Millionen Euro vorgesehen. Im Juni 2017 soll ein neuer Eröffnungstermin festgelegt werden.

Die 1992 in Kooperation von den Freistaaten Sachsen und Thüringen, dem Landkreis Greiz, dem Vogtlandkreises sowie den Städten Greiz und Reichenbach gegründete Vogtland Philharmonie hat ihre Finanzierungsschwierigkeiten überwunden. Eine entsprechende Vereinbarung wurde am Mittwoch von den Trägern unterzeichnet. Der Vertrag hat eine Laufzeit bis 2024.

The Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra and its conductor, Gustavo Gimeno, are touring Spain from November 2 to 5, with concerts in Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza and Alicante.

In Kuwait City, the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Centre has been inaugurated on October 31. The Centre will showcase performing arts in a world class theatre quarter comprising an opera house seating 2 000, a musical centre, a conference building and a library.

In New York as well as in Boston, protest actions took place against concerts of Russian pianist Denis Matsuev. The protesting groups said, US citizens should ask themselves whether it is appropriate to continue cooperation with Russian artists, who support the policy of President Vladimir Putin.

The flagship of British festivals, the BBC Proms is to give birth to a baby at Dubai Opera in 2017, with four days of performances from March 21-24. The performers will be the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Singers.
