Canadian ensemble Les Violons du Roy have announced today that Jonathan Cohen will be the orchestra’s new Music Director from the 2018/19 season. He will assume the title of Music Director Designate from February 2017, with two concerts at Palais Montcalm, Quebec on 23 February. Jonathan takes over from Bernard Labadie who founded the orchestra in 1984 and resigned due to illness. Read More →

Born in the US State of Kansas in 1942, bass-baritone Samuel Ramey is faithful to his roots. In Wichita, Kansas’s largest city, the Directors of the Grand Opera announced today that Ramey has been named to a newly-created position to serve as Wichita Grand Opera Ambassador and Artistic Advisor, effective as of November 1, 2016, for a two-year period. Der designierte Chefdirigent der Berliner Philharmoniker, Kirill Petrenko, soll am heutigen Donnerstag in Berlin offiziell seinen Vertrag unterschreiben. Das Orchester hatte den Dirigenten 2015 nach schwierigen Wahlen zum Nachfolger von Simon Rattle gewählt. Der Russe Kirill Petrenko wird die Berliner Philharmoniker ab 2019 leiten.

The NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo has extended its contract with Chief Conductor Paavo Järvi for an additional three years until August 2021. Paavo Järvi’s second season as Chief Conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra opened on a high in September when he conducted Mahler’s Symphony  No. 8 in celebration  of  the  orchestra’s 90th Anniversary.
