Nach den Forderungen vieler Kulturschaffender und den Kulturministern aus Deutschland und Italien, die EU dürfe dem Europäischen Jugendorchester (EUYO) die Subventionen nicht streichen, will sich EU-Kommissionspräsident Jean-Claude Juncker persönlich für die Rettung des vor 40 Jahren gegründeten Ensembles einsetzen. Er hat drei EU-Kommissare mit Vorschlägen für « unverzügliche Lösungen“ beauftragt: Kulturkommissar Tibor Navracsics, der für die digitale Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft zuständige Günther Oettinger sowie Kristalina Georgieva, die als Vizekommissionspräsidentin für den Haushalt zuständig ist.

Nach zwei erfolgreichen Opernproduktionen mit Flüchtlingen  – ‘Cosi fan tutte’ und ‘Zaide’ – haben Cornelia Lanz und der Verein ‘Zuflucht Kultur’ ein weiteres Projekt initiiert. Am 8. Following unprecedented reaction from music and cultural organisations from Europe and across the world to the recent announcement of the impending closure of the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Council of Ministers of the European Union has agreed to discuss the issue at their next meeting in Brussels. Without any guarantee that the politicians will reverse the apparatschik’s decision to stop funding the ensemble, this is a first important victory in the campaign.
