Der aus Lodz stammende und in Frankreich lebende Komponist Casimir Oberfeld, war im Zweiten Weltkrieg als Jude in das NS-Konzentrationslager Auschwitz deportiert worden. Er starb Ende Januar 1945 während eines Todestransports an Kälte. Seine Leiche wurde am Bahnhof in Prelouc an der tschechisch-polnischen Grenze abgeladen und dort von einem Priester beerdigt. There was a lot of a swing forth and back at the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, yet finally Jonathan Nott seems to have signed his contract. The Swiss Orchestra unveiled the program for its 2016-2017 season today, a season which will be marked by the arrival of the new music director. Yet, Nott will come only on 1 January 2017, starting with a tour of Spain.But for months, so we learn, he has been working with the orchestra on the program 16-17. He also is also part of the recruitment committee of the future chief executive, which could be appointed as soon as in summer 2016.
Nicola Luisotti
Nicola Luisotti announced that he will leave his position as music director of the San Francisco Opera (SFO) at the end of his current contract, on July 31, 2018. He assumed the position in September of 2009. He is also music director of the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples since 2012.
Patrick Lange

Das Wiener Staatsopernorchester wurde am Pfingst-Wochenende Opfer eines frechen Einbruchs. In der Staatsoper wurden mehr als 30 Spinde in der Hauptgarderobe der männlichen Orchestermitglieder aufgebrochen und durchwühlt. Gestohlen wurden Geld und persönliche Gegenstände. Die Polizei hat Ermittlungen aufgenommen.

French harpsichordist Huguette Dreyfus died yesterday, 17 May, at the age of 88. Born in Mulhouse in 1928 she studied with Norbert Dufourcq and Ruggero Gerlin. In 1958, Dreyfus won the Geneva international harpsichord competition, becoming a prominent figure of ancient Renaissance and Baroque music and of the revival of the harpsichord in France. In alphabetical order, the finalists for this year’s Reine Elisabeth Competition in Brussels are: Alexander Beyer, Alberto Ferro, Chi Ho Han, Atsushi Imada, Aljosa Jurinic, Yoonji Kim, Henry Kramer, Okada Kana, Dmitry Shishkin, Hans H. Suh, Lukas Vondracek and Larry Weng. They will perform at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts from 23 until 28 May, with the National Orchestra of Belgium conducted by Marin Alsop. On Saturday 28 May, the laureates will be ranked at the end of the evening.
