The Jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) announced today the Awards for 2016. Soprano Dame Felicity Lott is honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Le Poème Harmonique and Vincent Dumestre present the Normandy International Baroque Music Competition, the first international competition in France for instrumental soloists in the baroque music. The competition is open to young musicians of any nationalities. The first edition will be held in September 2016 and will be dedicated to string instruments: violin, cello and viola da gamba. Primorsky Opera, Vladivostok

With the Primorsky Opera in Vladivostok now being part of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, it is among General Director Valery Gergiev’s countless duties to engage the responsible people. So he now announced the name of the musical leaders; the post of Principal Conductor has been given to Mariinsky Theatre conductor Pavel Smelkov. The Principal Guest Conductor of the Primorsky Stage is Mariinsky Theatre guest conductor Vladislav Karklin. In other words: total control.

Pavarotti in Pesaro

The villa of the Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007) in the city of Pesaro will be transformed into an artistic centre, the family of the singer said. A native of Modena in northern Italy, Pavarotti had fallen in 1965 for the house called Villa Giulia in Pesaro and bought it ten years later. He described the hilltop property as his ‘retreat’. Now it will become an artistic home for theatre companies, musicians and singers who will be able to work at this inspiring place.

Sidney Opera House

Das Opernhaus von Sydney und die umliegenden Örtlichkeiten wurden am Donnerstag wegen einer Bombendrohung von der Polizei geräumt und abgesperrt. Das Personal der Oper und die Besuchergruppen im Haus mussten die Oper verlassen. Mehrere Stunden später wurde Enttarnung gegeben. Nähere Angaben zum Vorfall wurden von der Polizei nicht gemacht, berichten australische Medien.

Das Saarländische Staatstheater in Saarbrücken konnte die hohen Besucherzahlen der vorherigen Saison in der Spielzeit 2014/2015 noch steigern. Insgesamt 219.898 Zuschauer besuchten alle Spielstätten und die auswärtigen Vorstellungen des Theaters. Das waren über 12.000 Besucher mehr als im Vorjahr. Eine Steigerung gab es bei den Sinfoniekonzerten in der Congresshalle unter dem neuen Generalmusikdirektor, Nicholas Milton, sowie bei der Oper.
