For health reasons Swiss Conductor Philippe Jordan (41), had to cancel all appearances in January and February with the Wiener Symphoniker at Wiener Konzerthaus, Musikverein Wien as well as a tour to France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Lahav Shani and Adrien Perruchon are stepping in so all planned concerts can go ahead. Jordan is scheduled to conduct Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg on March 1 at the Bastille Opera in Paris.

The resurrection of the New York City Opera is still uncertain. According to the Wallstreet Journal, New York State Attorney General’s office gave a rather doubtful response to the plan of NYCO Renaissance Ltd., a group led by former City Opera trustee Roy Niederhoffer, saying that the rescue group has not yet provided sufficient evidence for its financial projections. Beethovenhalle Bonn

Die ‘Bürger für Beethoven’, mit 1.500 Mitgliedern größter ehrenamtlicher Verein in Bonn, wollen sich nicht an der Spendenaktion für die vom Stadtrat beschlossene Sanierung der Beethovenhalle beteiligen. Die Vereinigung, die die das leider geplatzte Projekt eines neuen Festspielhauses unterstützt hatte, wirft der Stadt vor, bei der Renovierung der aktuellen Halle in dem Betrag von 60 Millionen Euro keine akustische Verbesserung vorgesehen zu haben. Einer Meldung des SWR zufolge ist der deutsche Dirigent Klaus Arp im Alter von 65 Jahren verstorben. Arp war von 1987 bis 1995 Chefdirigent des Rundfunkorchesters des Südwestfunks in Kaiserslautern. Von 1981 bis 1987 war er Erster Kapellmeister am Stadttheater Koblenz. Er war auch als Komponist aktiv und unterrichtete an der Staatlichen Musikhochschule Heidelberg-Mannheim.

Im Jahr 2015 erzielte das Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden seine beste Auslastung seit 2009: 309.618 Eintrittskarten wurden verkauft, rund 4000 mehr als im Jahr 2014. Die Gesamtauslastung 2015 betrug 82 Prozent. Das bedeutet einen Anstieg gegenüber dem Jahr 2014 (80,1 Prozent) um knapp zwei Prozent und um knapp vier Prozent gegenüber dem Jahr 2013 (78,1 Prozent).

The Menuhin Competition has announced the 22 Junior and 22 Senior candidates for the 2016 competition, taking place at London’s Royal Academy of Music from April 7-17th. The country list ios leaded by South Korea (25%), the US and Japan. Astonishingly there is only one candidate coming from Russia. Italian conductor Gianandrea Noseda, 51, will become the seventh Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, beginning with the 2017-2018 season. During the current season, the sixth and last of Christoph Eschenbach, Noseda will be Music Director Designate. The appointment comes only two months following his recent appearance with the NSO.
