Welsh National Opera has announced today that Czech conductor Tomas Hanus will take up the position of Music Director in autumn 2016, succeeding Lothar Koenigs. At the same time, Carlo Rizzi has been named Conductor Laureate with WNO with immediate effect. Born in 1970, Tomas Hanus studied with Jiri Belohlavek at the Janacek Academy of Music and Drama in Brno. He has a strong relationship with the Bayerische Staatsoper, and guest-conducts also at other opera houses in Europe.

Belgian Government wants, in long-term, merge the orchestra of the opera house La Monnaie and the Belgian National Orchestra. This has been confirmed by the Ministry of Culture. Read More →

Die deutsche Musikwirtschaft hat 2014 rund elf Milliarden Euro umgesetzt. Mit insgesamt 127.000 Selbständigen und Arbeitnehmern übertraf sie die Erwerbstätigenzahlen jeder anderen Medienbranche. Die Bruttowertschöpfung lag 2014 mit rund 3,9 Milliarden Euro sogar über der von Filmwirtschaft, Rundfunk, sowie Buch- oder Zeitschriftenverlagen. After an intensive search around the opera world, San Francisco Opera has announced that its No. 2, the Brit Matthew Shilvock, 39, Associate general director since 2010, will be the company’s next general director. Shilvock will succeed David Gockley, 72, at the conclusion of next year’s summer season.

Die finnische Kontrabassistin Katri-Maria Leponiemi (24) erhält den mit 7000 Euro dotierten Usedomer Musikpreis 2015. Sie ist eine Schülerin von Janne Saksala, Solo-Kontrabassist der Berliner Philharmoniker. Der Preis wird am 7. Oktober im Rahmen eines Konzerts während des diesjährigen Usedomer Musikfestivals verliehen.

In Bremen findet heute im ausverkauften früheren Sendesaal von Radio Bremen das erste Konzert des ‘Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra’  statt. Auf dem Programm stehen ‘Orchesterwerke von Maias Alyamani, Issa Boulos, Salim Dada, Franz Schubert, Piotr Tchaikovsky und George Fenton. Syrische Musiker sind dafür aus mehreren Ländern angereist. Unterstützt werden die Syrer vom Bremer Jugendsymphonie Orchester. Ein zweites Konzert des SEPO soll Anfang Oktober in Lüneburg stattfinden.

Penderecki Centre in Luslawice

Der Gewinner des 10. Internationalen Aeolus Bläserwettbewerbs an der Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf ist der 18 Jahre alte Italiener Andrea Cellacchi. Er überzeugte am Sonntag als Solist beim Finalkonzert des Wettbewerbs in der Tonhalle Düsseldorf. Der Fagottist freut sich über ein Preisgeld in Höhe von 10.000 Euro.
