Das ‘Orchestre de la Suisse Romande’ sollte am Dienstag zu einer Amerika-Tournee nach Los Angeles aufbrechen. Während die Instrumente via Luxemburg mit Cargolux in die USA geflogen wurden, mussten die Musiker einen nicht vorgesehenen Tag in London verbringen. Wegen eines Triebwerkdefekts des Airbus 380 der ‘British Airways’ konnte das Orchester erst gestern, einen Tag später als vorgesehen, nach Amerika starten. Das erste Konzert findet heute abend in Aliso Viejo, Kalifornien, statt. Dirigent der Tournee ist Charles Dutoit.

Der neue Intendant des ‘Teatro Colón’ in Buenos Aires, Darío Lopérfido, hat den Vertrag von Katharina Wagner als Regisseurin der Oper ‘Parsifal’ im Dezember 2015 gekündigt. Sie wird durch den argentinischen Regisseur Marcelo Lombardero ersetzt. « Ich wollte etwas künstlerisch Stärkeres für ‘Parsifal' », sagte Lombardero, der aber auch an den Skandal erinnerte, der nach dem Abspringen der Bayreuther Festspielchefin von dem ambitionierten Ring-Projekt im ‘Colón’ im Jahre 2012 entstanden war. Nach Aussagen des Intendanten in der argentinischen Presse, müsse sein Theater für diese Kündigung keine Entschädigung an Wagner zahlen.

Die Förderung junger Musiker wird erfolgreich von vielen verschiedenen Institutionen unternommen. Neben der neuerdings in Mode geratenen Methode geldgieriger Geschäftemacher, die die Angst von Heerscharen junger Künstler, arbeitslos zu bleiben, ausnützen und mit exorbitanten Gebühren Vorspiel-Sessions veranstalten, gibt es auch so edle Einrichtungen wie das ‘Festival Next Generation’ im schweizerischen Bad Ragaz, wo Talente erkannt und ehrlich gefördert werden. In November 2015, the Dallas Opera company will inaugurate their Institute for Women Conductors. Female conductors up to 40 years old are encouraged to apply, as are female singers, opera coaches, accompanists and instrumentalists with established careers seeking new opportunities as conductors. Six candidates will be selected for the inaugural class, which will run from Nov. 28 to Dec. 6. Those selected will take part in master classes with music director Emmanuel Villaume and principal guest conductor Nicole Paiement, attend seminars and discussions and conduct the Dallas Opera Orchestra in a concert at the Winspear Opera House.

György Kurtag

Der ungarische Komponist György Kurtag (*1926) wurde mit dem renommierten Preis der  ‘BBVA Foundation’ ausgezeichnet. Er ist mit 400.000 € dotiert. Kurtag sei einer wichtigsten Protagonisten der zeitgenössischen Musik, sagte die Jury, und er arbeite unermüdlich, zur Zeit an einer Oper.

Mariss Jansons fühlt sich « zum Narren gehalten”, es gibt Petitionen, massive Kritik….die Politik will es besser wissen als alle und hält an dem Konzertsaal-Umbau in München fest. Er wurde gestern endgültig genehmigt. Ob die Politiker wohl wissen, auf was sie sich eingelassen haben, wie hoch das Risiko eines totalen Debakels ist? Dumme Frage, natürlich wissen sie es nicht. Wie könnten sie auch?

Latvian Minister of Culture Dace Melbarde has presented today the Grand Music Award 2014 for Lifetime Achievement to the conductor Mariss Jansons. This happened at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Jansons is not able to attend the March 4 ceremony in Riga due to his schedule.

Nineteen years old Polish pianist Andrzej Wiercinski won the All-Poland Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition at the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw. The Argentinean composer of Italian origin, Rodolfo Zanni (1901-1927), passed away at the early age of 26 years in mysterious circumstances. His compositions (81 works, symphonies, overtures, ballets, sonatas and two operas) completely disappeared. Now, the Italian music magazine Musica decided to honor his memory and give impulse to musicological investigations, by offering 5.000 Euros to anybody (physical person or institution) who will discover or give fundamental indications to find the manuscript or a printed copy of Rosmunda, an opera in four acts with libretto by Sem Benelli.
