A nice scandal: The architect who built the Philharmonie in Paris, Jean Nouvel, will not attend the official inauguration tonight. In an article published by Le Monde he says the event is premature since the building is still a major construction site. Only the main hall is finished and Jean Nouvel says it makes no sense to inaugurate the new building without the adjacent foyers and other places. Our colleagues from ResMusica have pointed out that the musicians of Orchestre de Paris went on the stage of the hall last Monday only, without having made any acoustical tests. One only can ask: Why all this haste?

In Paris wird heute per Murks die neue Philharmonie eingeweiht. Als Baustelle! Vor dem Haus stehen noch Kräne, und die Fassade ist längst nicht fertig. Das soll erst in drei Monaten der Fall sein. Die Innenräume werden erst im Sommer alle bezugsbereit sein. Der Bau ist nach wie vor politisch umstritten. Die Oper Leipzig meldet für das Jahr 2014 eine Gesamtauslastung von 70,3 Prozent, bei 175.000 Besuchers in 347 Veranstaltungen. Das sind 5.000 oder knapp 3 Prozent mehr als im Vorjahr.

The Minnesota Orchestra and Music director Osmo Vänskä will resume recording sessions this spring in order to finish their cycle of Sibelius symphonies for the Swedish label BIS. The project was seriously delayed due to the 16-month lockout of musicians.

Beim Abschlusskonzert des Operettenworkshops an der Musikalischen Komödie in Leipzig wurde am Samstag der 7. Deutsche Operettenpreis für junge Dirigenten an Christian Reif verliehen. Insgesamt vier Teilnehmer nahmen an dem diesjährigen Workshop unter Leitung von Roland Seiffarth, Ehrendirigent der Musikalischen Komödie, teil und stellten sich im Abschlusskonzert dem Votum einer fünfköpfigen Jury. Die berühmte russische Opernsängerin Elena Obraztsova ist heute, am 12. Januar, im Alter von 75 Jahren an einem nicht mitgeteilten Ort in Deutschland gestorben. Die Mezzosopranistin wurde am 7. Juli 1939 in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) geboren. Nach Studien am Konservatorium ihrer Heimatstadt wurde sie 1963 ans Bolschoi-Theater eingeladen, wo sie als Marina Mnischek in Mussorgskys Oper ‘Boris Godunow’ debütierte. Read More →
Der Bau der Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg macht, wie gemeldet, nach der Neuordnung des Projektes im Frühjahr 2013 weiter gute Fortschritte.
