The St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra has announced that Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit, 81, will be its Principal Guest Conductor from 2018/2019 season. The first concerts are planned for May 2019.
Dutoit served as music director of Canadian Montreal Symphony Orchestra from 1977 to 2002, but in December last year four musicians accused him of having suffered sexual harassment during that period. Dutoit denied the allegations, which have not been proven in court. Nevertheless he lost his position as Principal Conductor and Artistic director of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Numerous orchestras either cancelled engagements or cut ties with Dutoit.
