The Orlando Festival in Kerkrade (South of the Netherlands), one of the most prestigious festivals of in Europe has taken over the former Charles Hennen Competition, which will take place as ‘Orlando Competition’, 6th – 9th August 2014 just before the Festival. The first price is called the Prix Charles Hennen and consists of a money price and a concert tour in the Netherlands and a concert in Aachen (Germany) as well as a place in the renowned International Master Class for String Quartets during the festival. Nine string quartets will compete in the first round. The next day the second round takes place and in the final round three quartets will compete in the Theatre of Heerlen on August 9th.
The international jurors for the Orlando Competition 2014 will be renowned chamber musicians: Luc-Marie Aguera (violin, Ysaÿe Quartet), Jürgen Kussmaul (viola, Trio Archibudelli), Stefan Metz (chairman, cello, Orlando Quartet), Alex Redington (violin, Doric String Quartet) and Rainer Schmidt (violin, Hagen Quartet).
