British conductor Karel Mark Chichon (*1971) has been named music director of the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra for the next three and a half years. He will have a salary of 30.000 euros per year as artistic director, will charge 11.000 euros for each subscription concert and 4.500 for other concerts, the orchestra announced.
The Gran Canaria Phil is an orchestra with financial and labour problems which Chichon will have to face. He just walked out of his contract as music director of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie due to financial cuts.
