Jean-Luc Choplin, the former General Manager of the Châtelet in Paris and more recently of La Seine Musicale, could be the next General Manager of Théâtre Marigny, the newspaper Les Echos reports. Located on the Champs Elysées, opposite to the Grand Palais, Marigny has undergone a total renovation since 2013 and should reopen in September 2018.
The question is whether Jean-Luc Choplin, known as a specialist for the production of world class and thus expensive musicals, will get enough money from the private operator hired by Marigny’s owner (the City of Paris). This operator is Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière at the head of SAS Marigny. The group plans to present musicals and variety entertainment.
Théâtre Marigny was originally built to designs of the architect Charles Garnier for the display of a panorama, which opened in 1883. The panorama was converted to the Théâtre Marigny in 1894 by the architect Édouard Niermans and became a home to operetta and other musical theatre.
