German pianist and conductor Christian Zacharias will act as Honorary Conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest for the 2020-2021 season, the orchestra announced.
“We are honored that maestro Christian Zacharias accepted to become the honorary director of the Philharmonic, a position previously held only by Sergiu Celibidache, after his return to Romania in 1990,” Andrei Dimitriu, the general director of the George Enescu Philharmonic, said.
“I am particularly honored that I will become, in this position, a successor of Sergiu Celibidache. I was lucky to rehearse and perform with him in the 1970s. It was an unforgettable experience, which contributed decisively to finding my way to conducting,” Christian Zacharias said.
