British composer Anthony Payne is dead, the BBC reported. Payne was born in London in 1936. He started composing at a very early age, inspired by composers like Elgar, Delius and Vaughan Williams.
He was commissioned four times by the BBC Proms, which led to his celebrated reconstruction of Elgar’s Third Symphony. Payne ass married to soprano Jane Manning, with whom he founded the ensemble Jane’s Minstrels in 1988. His wide died last month.
