Japanese Composer Toshio Hosokawa has received the The Japan Foundation Award for 2018. The award was founded in 1973 and it is awarded to individuals or organizations that have made a remarkable contribution to promoting mutual understanding between Japan and overseas countries.
Hosokawa, 62, studied composition with Isang Yun at Berlin’s University of Art and with Klaus Huber in Freiburg. In 1980, he participated for the first time in the Darmstadt International Contemporary Music Summer Course, and presented works. Since then, he has been successfully composing music mainly in Europe and Japan.
