Twenty young musicians who previously participated in the Concertgebouworkest Young summer project will meet in Amsterdam this month, forming a string orchestra under the name String Fling from 22 to 26 May.
Hailing from various European countries, the musicians all participated in one of the four past editions of Concertgebouworkest Young. String Fling allows them to share their love for music and their experiences with Young, while further developing their musical and social skills. They will receive masterclasses from members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and under the direction of first violinist Borika van den Booren-Bayon will work on a concert program featuring the Serenade for Strings by Josef Suk and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony.
The young musicians then perform at a number of special locations. In addition to private concerts at the Asylum Seekers Centre Dronten and at a music school in Purmerend, they will give two public concerts: on Friday, May 24 at 1:15 PM at Amsterdam UMC hospital (Annaplein, AMC location) and on Sunday, May 26 at 11:00 AM in the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s Amsterdam Hall.
The final concert in the Amsterdam Hall, located on Gabriël Metsustraat 16 in Amsterdam, is free of charge.
