The Basque National Orchestra has appointed the German conductor Jun Märkl as its Music Advisor for the 2014/2015 Season. Märkl will hold great prominence in the coming concert season and carry out the functions of a principal conductor. Märkl has been working on the musical axes for development in the coming months and now turns to preparation of the concerts.
The new Music Advisor has conducted the Basque Orchestra on four occasions. His first collaboration was in 2012 at the Festival Musique en Côte Basque in Biarritz.
The Basque Government Department of Education, Language Policy and Culture, Jun Märkl and the outgoing general manager Iñigo Alberdi consider that it is advisable not to hurry and to wait for incorporation of the new general manager to confirm this relationship. The presence of Jun Märkl as Music Advisor completes the musical management of the Orchestra alongside Andrey Boreyko, who continues to hold the position of Principal Guest Conductor with the symphony formation.
