Japanese conductor Kazushi Ono has won the Asahi Prize for 2015, the Asahi Shimbun announced on Jan. 1. Ono, 55, was selected for his energetic activities in Japan and abroad. He is currently Music Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Principal Conductor at the Opéra national de Lyon and Principal Guest Conductor of the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini.
The Asahi Prize, presented by the Asahi Shimbun Foundation, honors distinguished individuals and groups in academics, arts and other fields who have contributed to advancements in Japanese culture and society.
