Austrian conductor Sascha Goetzel resigned with immediate effect as First Guest Conductor of the Orchestre symphonique de Bretagne, a post which he occupied since 2012. In a letter to the President of the orchestra, he says that his resignation is due to unilateral decisions by the intendant of the orchestra, Marc Feldman, concerning future programming, as well as to the fact that his name was removed from the orchestra’s website. In a press release Goetzel writes: « It is an honour and a pleasure for me to have worked with the musicians of the Orchestre symphonique de Bretagne. I had their support and their sympathy on many occasions, and an honest and friendly relationship always characterized our collaboration. »
A musician of the orchestra commented: « I had read in the season brochure, that Sascha Goetzel was not any more mentioned as First Guest conductor, but I thought that the management had informed him about that. I am sorry about this and I profoundly regret the way our intendant handled this matter. »
Sascha Goetzel is also Music director of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as First Guest conductor of the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra in Japan.
