The administrative court of Lyon has overturned the dismissal of Laurent Campellone, the former music director of the Opera in Saint-Etienne, France, only eight months after the installation of the new city council. At the same time, the city dismissed the managing director, Vincent Bergeot (who has been reengaged following a court judgment), as well as the production manager, Sophie Platret. The city reproached to Campellone the fact that he accepted to conduct in Berlin, Sofia and other cities.
The court said, Campellone’s professional reputation had been seriously damaged by this dismissal and granted him a compensation of 80 000 euros, plus 3 000 euros for legal costs. The justice also demands for Laurent Campellone a new contract as First Guest conductor. Such things arrive when clueless politicians interfere in cultural matters.
